1. Draft rumors have already been completely debunked... try another conspiracy
2. 200,000/yr for that job is peanuts. It's the highest stress job there is. For every decision you hear about in the press, there are dozens you don't hear about. There are decisions he makes on a daily basis that you and I would never want to make ever in our lives. It's a crap job really with crap pay and NO room for being human. $200,000 is undervaluing the job.

We somehow survived the past four years without too much trouble. We'll make it through the next four.

You obviously have very little grasp of politics, current events or the world situation as a whole. Stick to campaigning for 8th grade class president, the issues there are ones you're actually familiar with.

Wow, I desperately hope that in 4 years the children of draft age folks here in the US won't suddenly grow to draft age. We'd have some serious problems biologically...

, I could jsut about throw a rock and hit people who make $200,000 a year, and I don't live in any sort of affluent area. Given that the President of the United states is the most important job in the US, and arguably in the entire world, I find it difficult to believe it doesn't deserve that kind of salary, or more...

P.S. that figure kept annoying me so I bothered to look it up, and the President makes $400,000 a year. Now you can be TWICE as outraged, lol...

My 8th grade comment was based off of both your previous article screaming for the recess rights of middle schoolers (where I'm from, middle school is 6th, 7th and 8th grade... I appologize if you're in one of the areas where it includes 9th grade) as well as your advanced command of the english language and your love of punctuation marks.

You obviously have a tenuous grasp of politics and current events if you're still carrying high the "He's going to reinstate the draft!" banner and honestly think that a single man can turn an entire country into a complete failure. I bet you blame the tech bubble bursting on Bush too... and all other economic ills.

And I'll admit to going with the now disproven $200,000 figure... I just remember that as the number used in my elementary school civics lessons oh so many years ago.

I wonder if it has gone up because of inflation, or perhaps because of the price of gas... does the president have to buy gas?

I agree with this Zoomba...whoami seems to like to rant about things s/he doesn't know much about.

I wouldn't use the argument that Bush will definitely impose a draft. In some ways he already has, by imposing stop gap, those who wish to get out of the military cannot, those who wish to get out of Iraq can only do so by re-upping, and has brought to Iraq soldiers who did not know they needed to resign from the military when their inactive reserve time was up. Additionally he has used the reserves in a way which can only be described as exploitive.
While it is not certain whether Bush will institute a traditional draft, at this point it is hard to see how he cannot do so. 9 of our 10 active divisions have already served in Iraq and/or in Afghanistan. He is bringing troops home from other countries in order to have more available to go to Iraq and there is no end in sight. Because he did not bring enough nations into the original "alliance" the country was left in chaos after mission accomplished. The fact that we could not hold the country under control made the insurgents job very easy to recruit. This war was a major issue in 2004 and will be so again in 2008 because it will still be going on.

He wont reinstate a draft. Instead, they will start requiring all 18-20 to preform in some sort of militaristic duty for a minimum of two years. They say either a desk job, or actual soldiering. (Is that a word?)

Many other countries do this, such as Thailand, but I don't want to have to do it. I would serve my country if I had to, but...I dunno...this just seems like part of "1984" all over again. YOU MUST SERVE! If it doesn't come from your heart, then I don't see why. Okay, I'm going to get whipped for that...but it's just how I feel. I don't think that any job, schooling, or service should be mandatory. It doesn't mean as much if it is, and some just arent' cut out for it.

Other than jsut pulling it out of thin air, where do you get such a prediction? Has the administration said anything about it? Has anyone proposed a bill? Just curious how you can be so sure that such a thing is even on the table...

It has been talked about by political people...here in UT it was actually a pretty big thing for a few days, until the election took completely over. I don't know if it's a state thing, which I doubt, or if it was proposed by some senator, but it was being discussed. Now with things going on in Fallujah, and Arafat dying, not much else has come out about anything. You can look it up if you want to, feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

If you don't want to be thought of as an 8th grader, perhaps you shouldn't write and act like one? Just a thought.

Do you feel better and bigger now that you pissed that little diatribe out? Sure hope so.

Um...Peter, are you talking to whoami or are you talking to someone else...

this is going to seem terribly naive, but what is a diatribe?

A rant. Basically a heated monologue where the orator does not expect any answers, just wants to do some chest pounding.
on Nov 12, 2004
SilverandJade--Yeah, that was directed to whoami, nobody else. I just found the original post incredibly naive and ridiculous, and the "I'm not an eighth grader" whaa whaa line even worse.

A diatribe is a "bitter and abusive denunciation".
on Nov 12, 2004
LoL...thanks Dr. Guy for your def. and Peter for yours too.

This whoami doesn't seem like an 8th grader, seems even younger to me...which is...odd.
